On
the occasion of its 100th anniversary (in 2000), the
municipality created 4 thematic tours along its main paths: please
click on the corresponding tour to discover its geographical situation and a series of
photos. Sentier
du glacier: Placed
under the theme of water and ice, the glacier tour follows the old road to the
Col de la Forclaz and the water conduit path. It takes you across fir and larch forests to
the foot of the Trient glacier. On your way, you will discover the history of the water
conduit and the ice trade in the 19th century. Sentier
des Gorges mystérieuses de Tête-Noire: Entirely
dedicated to the Tête-Noire, this tour lets you discover the history of
its hotel. Over stairs and footbridges, it takes you to the Abyss of Tête-Noire and the
Nymph Cave. The rough and wild nature hints at the difficult life in former times and the
reasons for the population drain in this region. On
the way back through the old tunnel, you will follow the ancient road of the barouches and
stagecoaches. Sentier
des Alpages:
Starting from the floor of the valley, the tour takes you to dizzy heights. You will pass
Les Herbagères (stable covered with a stone vault) to finally arrive at the Col de Balme
with its wonderful view of the valley of Chamonix. Following the ancient frontier markers
and cairns, the tour leads along the stables of Catogne (about ten cottages) to Les
Tzeppes and its iron mines. The tour is a prolonged version of the French route. Sentier
des Hameaux: On the
side of Les Jeurs, the tour shows you the audacity of the tunnels before it lets you
discover a series of hamlets as well as millstones, cross, chapel dating back to 1709,
bread oven, electrical power station and aqueduct.
